Los Angeles · Sub-Zero
Refrigerator Repair
Built-in, panel-ready and undercounter Sub-Zero refrigeration that has stopped holding temperature — airflow, sealed system, controls and door seals.
What owners describe, and what it usually is
- Fresh food side climbing into the fifties while the freezer still holds
- Two evaporators, two circuits. One side holding while the other climbs points at the fresh-food evaporator, its fan or its defrost circuit — not the compressor.
- Compressor running without a break through a hot afternoon
- A compressor that never rests is usually rejecting heat badly: a condenser packed with dust, a failed condenser fan, or a unit with no air gap behind the plinth.
- Water collecting under the produce drawers, or ice across the cabinet floor
- Water under the drawers is a blocked or frozen drain nine times in ten. Ice across the cabinet floor is the same fault, further along.
- Door easing back open instead of pulling itself shut
- A door that eases back open is a hinge, a cam or a gasket that has taken a set — cheap to put right, and expensive to ignore while it pulls warm air in.
What the visit covers
- Cabinet and freezer temperatures logged against the set points, not read off the display
- Condenser, condenser fan and the air path behind the plinth checked and cleared
- Evaporator, its fan and the defrost circuit tested on the side that is failing
- Door seals, hinges and closing action checked before anything else is blamed
- Sealed system read under gauges where the readings point that way
Diagnosis comes first and the price comes second. The bands further down say what that price usually looks like for this repair; the figure itself is agreed with you at the visit, before anything is opened up, ordered or replaced.
What it costs
What refrigerator repair costs in Los Angeles
Flat $89 service call covering the visit and full diagnosis, credited against the repair once you approve it.
How the number is agreed
Parts and labour come back as one figure, and it is agreed with you before the work starts — nothing is opened up, ordered or replaced until you have said yes to it.
The $89 you paid for the visit then comes off that figure, so the diagnosis is not charged twice.
- Door gasket or seal replacement
- $260–$690
- Evaporator or condenser fan motor
- $330–$750
- Defrost heater, thermostat or sensor
- $280–$640
- Ice maker, water valve or supply line
- $270–$830
- Electronic control board
- $390–$970
- Compressor or sealed-system repair
- $1,510–$3,440
Each line is a range because the same fault does not arrive in the same state twice: a seal on a single drawer and a seal on a full-height pair are not one job, and a part already on the van is not the same wait as one ordered against your model and serial. Where in the range your repair sits is settled at the visit, on the phone, before anything begins.
For comparison Replacing rather than repairing runs $12,710–$21,440 for a comparable built-in replacement, before installation and cabinetry work. That is the figure the bands above are really being measured against, and it is why a cabinet that is otherwise sound is usually worth putting right.

A few miles off the water, so anything metal corrodes here eventually. The undercounter drawers had quit cooling and the coils wore a crust of salt film. Cleaned out, new fan motor, and he showed me the vent to keep clear.

First real heat wave of the summer and the fresh food side climbed while the freezer stayed solid. Condenser fan motor had seized. He carried the part with him, and we were properly cold again by lunch.
Adriana V. · Encino
Mopping under the produce drawers twice a week for a month. A plugged drain, and a door seal gone slack along one edge. Both put right on the same visit.
