Sabbath mode is a Star-K certified setting that suspends the lighting and the ice maker while the cabinet cools on at its set points. Entering it starts by touching the power key until OFF shows, which is why a cold Sub-Zero can sit there reading OFF.
- What the control is watching
- Nothing in the food compartments. It is a state the panel was deliberately put into, held until somebody takes it out again.
- What makes it register
- A long press on the power key from the OFF state, easy to produce by accident when the intention was to shut the cabinet down.
- Can you keep using it
- Yes, exactly as normal. Set points are held throughout; what is missing is the lighting, new ice, and on newer panels the door chime.
The reason this setting reaches repair calls is the word it leaves on the display. Somebody meets a panel reading OFF, opens the door onto cold shelves and dark lamps, and concludes the control has lost the plot. The manufacturer’s procedure explains it: the power key is touched until OFF appears, and a further long hold on that key starts the mode.
What follows the hold differs by generation. A current Classic panel moves on to a short Sabbath legend confirming where the cabinet has got to. The older built-in guide walks through the identical two steps and gives the display no second word, which is how a running unit shows nothing more informative than OFF for as long as the observance lasts. Coming out is one press of the same key on either generation.
