Cabinet

The interior lights are out and the cabinet is fine

Interior lighting that switches itself off while the compartments stay cold is a protection feature rather than a failure: a door or drawer held open long enough makes the control drop the lamps so their heat cannot build up inside.

What the control is watching
How long a door or drawer has stood open, and the heat the interior lamps are adding while it does.
What makes it register
A door propped open through a long unload, a drawer that never quite latched, or a cabinet filled on a hot afternoon.
Can you keep using it
Yes. Cooling is untouched, and on both generations the lighting returns by itself once the door has been closed long enough.

Dark lamps read like the opening act of something much larger, and they almost never are. The compartments settle it: if the temperatures are where they belong, nothing has been lost. The lamps came out of circuit because they were warming an open cabinet.

The opposite fault costs money. Lamps that stay lit behind a closed door point at a door switch or the depressor that works it, and heat burning inside a sealed cabinet is how a compartment loses ground in a heat wave.

What we usually find

  1. Dark compartments the morning after a grocery delivery, on a cabinet holding temperature perfectly

The protection working as designed. Left shut, the older built-ins bring their lighting back inside half an hour; the current guide asks for a full hour.

  2. One section lit and the other dark on a combination cabinet, day after day

A door no longer pulling itself shut — a dropped hinge, or a seal gone hard enough to hold the door off its frame. The dark section names the door for you.

Door gasket or seal replacement $260–$690

  3. Lighting that never returns after a whole day with both doors kept closed

The lamp circuit rather than the protection. On older built-ins that is a bulb or its switch, both ordinary parts; on current cabinets the lighting is LED and changed as a service part.

Which of these it is gets settled at the visit, before a part is ordered — Sub-Zero Repair Pro Los Angeles, (310) 844-1973.

Follow-ups

How long should I leave the doors shut before I call anyone?
Give it the manufacturer's own interval with the doors properly closed: half an hour on an older built-in, an hour on a current cabinet. Opening up every few minutes to check restarts the clock. If the lighting is still out after that, Sub-Zero Repair Pro Los Angeles can take it from there on (310) 844-1973.
