A blank display is the absence of a reading rather than a reading. Nothing is being reported, so the fault lies between the mains and the panel itself, not in anything the control has measured.

- Nothing, and that is the point. A dark panel has stopped taking part, so the first job is deciding whether the machine behind it still works.

- Loss of supply at the outlet or the breaker, or a break in the link between the control panel assembly and the board it reports to.
- Can you keep using it
- If the cabinet is still cold and the interior lights work, yes for a short while. If nothing at all is running, the food has hours and the clock is the urgent part.
What a dark panel needs settling first is whether the machine behind it has stopped or merely stopped talking. Open the door in a quiet kitchen, listen for the compressor, put a hand on a shelf. A cold cabinet with a dead display can wait; a silent warm one is a job for today.
Then the breaker, which on an older board is not always labelled for the built-in. Past the plug and the breaker the checks stop being an owner’s: the next step is a continuity test with the panel assembly off the door.
Whatever the control recorded while the display was dark waits in memory, to be read out when the panel revives.

The ribbon cable between the panel assembly and the board, unseated or broken. Cooling is run by the board, so it carries on while the display it feeds goes dark. Reseating costs nothing; a failed cable takes the panel assembly with it, which is where the band comes from.
